This is an interesting one because I’ve more than once been given this feedback, but there’s a nuance… one can give honest feedback in constructive and helpful ways or just being a dick about it.

I know it’s hard when the stupidity is so obvious, but that doesn’t really excuse being a jerk. Now, some people aren’t going to like what you have to say regardless, and you better have a good argument or alternative for your honesty. Being a seagull and just shitting all over everything and calling it “honesty” is no excuse.

Be a part of the solution, but never be afraid to speak up and hold your ground (even if some people don’t like it).

Vacation

This… it’s always bugged me when people say “if my vacation is approved”. Like hell. I’m telling you I won’t be around so you can plan. Not to ask your permission.

Remote Work Q&A, Part 2

This part may be even better than Part 1. Love the commentary on shared calendars and documenting over meetings.

Strongly recommend anyone working remotely, especially managers or “leaders”, listen.

I thought this one was pretty good. Mostly management focused, but the last 3 sections are more employee focused.

we’re born as subjects to the authoritarian figures of our parents, and from there we’re funneled straight into the education system, which steers us directly toward the employee workforce. In each of these systems, we are subordinates whose work is likely to be unrelated to our own values, on schedules that are always determined by someone else.

… though he appears to have returned to the 9-5 (at least for now), the sentiment is still good.

Especially appreciate the part about leaders setting the example.

Sorry for the string of videos with “strong language”. I promise the next post will be “clean” 🙂
